Penguin x Monotype

Introduction

Feel The Story, a D&AD New Blood Pencil Winner 2026, reimagines typography as a sensory storytelling experience — transforming book covers into tactile and emotional encounters through texture, embossing, and expressive type. Developed for Penguin x Monotype, the project explores how design can deepen the connection between readers and narratives beyond words alone.

Challenges

Challenges

Shape how the world reads through tactile storytelling, emotional typography, and contemporary reading culture.

The project began by exploring the personal rituals behind reading through Photovoice methodology — uncovering how atmosphere, emotion, and physical interaction shape the way people experience stories today. These observations became the foundation for developing a more sensory and tactile approach to typography and book design.

Final thoughts

Final thoughts

Feel The Story became more than a competition project it evolved into a collaborative exploration of reading, emotion, and contemporary storytelling. Being recognised with a D&AD New Blood Pencil Winner 2026 award was both an honour and a meaningful milestone for the entire team.

What made the project especially valuable was the collaborative process behind it. Working alongside teammates from diverse creative backgrounds expanded my perspective on teamwork, communication, and collective problem-solving. The project reinforced the idea that meaningful design is rarely created in isolation — it grows through shared ideas, different perspectives, and learning together throughout the process.
